Open Air Theatre: The Great Gatsby
Outdoor theatre at its finest is back in Longford Park
Heartbreak Productions in association with Friends of Longford Park presents
The Great Gatsby
by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Sat, 10 July 2021. 19:30 – 22:30 (Gates Open: 18:30pm)
Age: 9+ Running time: 2 hours 20 minutes including interval.
Join Heartbreak Productions and the Nick Carraway quartet for an evening of jazz, prohibition style. Nick is not only the band leader but a top-notch storyteller, and when he’s in the mood, he can take you back to the summer of 1922 when he lived next door to none other than the infamous Jay Gatsby.
Nick was working as a bond salesman in New York the summer he met the mysterious party-throwing millionaire. Before long, Nick finds out that Gatsby and his cousin Daisy (who conveniently lives nearby) used to be an item. Gatsby is still in love with Daisy, but Daisy is now married to the pretentious and unfaithful Tom.
So get your glad rags on, work up your best Charleston, and get your cocktail glass at the ready! Served up with a twist of iconic Heartbreak style, this outdoor adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby is the perfect way to mark 100 years since prohibition. Dress for the weather, bring a chair or blanket to sit on, and don’t forget the picnic and prosecco (now that prohibition has been lifted!).

Location
For those that have not previously been to one of our open air theatre productions, the performance is held in the People’s Millions Garden adjacent to the formal Gardens. Click on the Satellite view on the map below for the exact location within the park. There will be two main access points, one on the Eastern side (follow the path alongside the Athletics Stadium) and a second on the Western side (follow the road past the cafe and it’ll be on the right past the Community Allotments). Once you get inside the park follow the signs. There will be volunteers at hand should you require assistance.
Gates open at approx 6:30pm
Parking
We would rather you left the car at home, but if you do drive, the easiest option is to park at the large car park next to the Athletics Stadium off Ryebank Road. There is a second smaller car park past the cafe for people with mobility issues. We kindly ask you to respect the new parking restrictions within Longford Park.
Toilets
Toilets are located at Longford Cafe and will be closed after the interval. Please note that the cafe itself may not be serving food or drinks from 5:00pm onward so we advise that you bring refreshments along.
