SUMMARY:Open Air Theatre – MACHAMLEAR
DESCRIPTION:This event has now finished.\n*  * *\n2026 Open Air Theatre Event: Sherlock Holmes – The Hound of the Baskervilles ( https://friendsoflongfordpark.org.uk/events/1590-915-662-887-734-206/ ) on Wednesday, June 17 2026 6:00pm\n* * *\nHeartbreak Productions in association with Friends of Longford Park presents:\nMACHAMLEAR\nby MICHAEL DAVIES\nRunning time: 2 Hours 15 Mins | Age: 9+\nTHURSDAY 8th June | 7:30pm\n \nCalling all Shakespeare lovers! You are invited to take part in a unique experiment that will answer the question keeping literary scholars up at night… which play is the best the Bard has to offer? Help us to decide by being part of an exciting, new theatre competition Will of the People. In Round One, we’ll be pitting Macbeth, Hamlet, and King Lear against each other, as some of the finest actors (that we can afford!) make their case for why their tragedy should be performed that evening, to win a place in the next round of the competition.\n \nHeartbreak Productions invites you to come and cast your vote at the battle of the Bard. Performed in the open-air, MacHamLear is a farcical piece of new writing from award-winning playwright Michael Davies that shamelessly exploits the genius of England’s most celebrated writer. Grab your copy of the Complete Works, a chair/blanket, weather appropriate gear, and a few nibbles, and prepare to be tickled pink as the three iconic plays are performed with passion, pep, and punch.\nTickets\nPlease note:  You can purchase  online at the EventBrite Website ( https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/machamlear-outdoor-theatre-in-longford-park-tickets-571039413257?aff=ebdsoporgprofile ) (admin fees apply). Numbers may be limited this year so get your tickets fast! Ticket sales on EventBrite will only be available up to 1:00pm on the day of the event. If there are still tickets available after this time these will be sold on the gate (cash only).\n\nAll tickets £12 (under 5s free)\nPlease note the booking fees charged for these tickets are not under the control of Friends of Longford Park. This year all ticket sales will be online.\nThis production will go ahead in all but the worst weather conditions (generally thunderstorms) so bring appropriate clothing (sunscreen, hat and an umbrella!).\nPlease bring a blanket or seat – there are no seats at the venue.\nIf the performance is cancelled you will be notified online and a refund will be given.\nChairs are not provided and places cannot be reserved in advance.\nDogs are not permitted in the audience area (guide dogs excepted).\n For general information on the play see http://www.heartbreakproductions.co.uk/ or contact us at info@folp.co.uk.\n\n \nLocation\nFor those that have not previously been to one of our open air theatre productions, the performance is held in the People’s Millions Garden adjacent to the formal Gardens. Click on the Satellite view on the map below for the exact location within the park. There will be two main access points, one on the Eastern side (follow the path alongside the Athletics Stadium) and a second on the Western side (follow the road past the cafe and it’ll be on the right past the Community Allotments). Once you get inside the park follow the signs. There will be volunteers at hand should you require assistance.\nGates open at approx 6:30pm\nParking\nWe would rather you left the car at home, but if you do drive, the easiest option is to park at the large car park next to the Athletics Stadium off Ryebank Road. There is a second smaller car park past the cafe for people with mobility issues. We kindly ask you to respect the new parking restrictions within Longford Park.\nToilets\nToilets are located at Longford Cafe and will be closed after the interval. Please note that the cafe itself may not be serving food or drinks from 5:00pm onward so we advise that you bring refreshments along.\n\n \n \n
