2002 ‘Celebrating Friends’ Folk Day

‘Celebrating Friends’ is a unique international folk day and FREE event to mark the coming of spring. Folk Music, song, dance and crafts will be available for all to come, RELAX and ENJOY.

This event is organised by the Friends of Longford Park, a local community group, who have succeeded in attracting funding from both National Lottery Arts Awards for All and Trafford Area Board to organise this free event which will celebrate different cultures in the run up to the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.

National, regional and local performers include Helen Watson, folk singer; Longnote, a local traditional Irish band; the Cajun Specials, Risky Business, a contemporary folk band; Northumbrian Pipes, Sambrio, a local Samba band; Tabla players; Polonez, Polish Dancers, Asbasindi African Drummers; Nrtya Jyoti, Indian Dancers; Chorlton Green and Fylde Coast Morris Dancers and local singer Paul Mr Nulty.

As well as listening and lazing, visitors will be able to perform themselves in a singaround; get involved in banner making, Maypole dancing, African drumming or instrument making. For younger visitors there will be storytelling sessions and an opportunity to learn circus skills.
